In connection with our support, we repeatedly receive files and content from customers and other data protection officers.

What many people may not know is that certain metadata is always stored in office files. This is information about the creator or editor of the document as well as other properties, if applicable. This metadata can be defined during the Office setup.

This data can be relevant for data protection as personal data and/or on the other side, so in the last document which we received, one can see who really created the document and whether a colleague adorns himself or herself with strange feathers if necessary.

Conclusion:

Check the metadata of your documents.

If you have „found“ a document and want to use and reuse it, adjust the metadata to avoid embarrassment.

And very important: respect the copyright!
